Questions

Frequently asked questions

Including the ones with uncomfortable answers. Where the honest answer is no, it says no.

Is Chicago Legal Connections a law firm?

No. It is an intake and attorney-connection service. It does not provide legal representation or legal advice, and completing an intake does not make us your attorney.

Does it cost anything to submit an inquiry?

No. Submitting an inquiry is free and does not obligate you to anything. If an attorney offers representation, that attorney will explain their own fee arrangement directly to you in writing.

Will an attorney definitely take my case?

No, and we cannot promise that. Attorneys decide independently, based on the type of matter, jurisdiction, conflicts of interest and their own professional judgment. If no participating attorney is able to assist, we will tell you and point you toward other resources.

Is what I write confidential?

We treat intake information as confidential and restrict who can see it. But confidentiality is not the same as attorney-client privilege, which generally arises from a relationship with an attorney and not from submitting a web form. Our Privacy Policy explains exactly who may receive your information and when.

How soon should I do something?

Promptly, generally. Illinois law limits the time available to pursue many claims, and some evidence is lost quickly. We cannot calculate your deadline, and you should not rely on this website to do so.

What if I already have an attorney?

Tell us in the intake. If you are currently represented on a matter, we will not seek to connect you with different counsel on that same matter.

Who actually sees what I write?

Our authorised intake personnel, and — if you consent — an attorney considering your matter. The attorney initially sees only a de-identified summary; your name, contact details, narrative and documents are released only after they have recorded a conflict check and accepted the matter for review. Every view and every release is logged in a record that cannot be edited.

Do you sell my information?

No. We do not sell or rent personal information, and there are no advertising or tracking pixels on this website. Our analytics run on our own server, set no cookies, and are not loaded on the intake pages at all.

Can you tell me how much my case is worth?

No, and nobody here is permitted to try. There is no case-value estimator on this website and there will not be. Only an attorney who has reviewed your actual situation can discuss that with you, and even then it is rarely a single number.

Can you tell me my deadline?

No. Illinois limits the time available to pursue many claims, and those limits vary with the type of claim, who the other party is, the age of the person affected and other circumstances. Getting it wrong could cost you your rights, so we do not guess. Move promptly and ask a licensed attorney.

How do you make money?

Attorneys who participate pay a fixed participation fee. It does not change depending on whether they accept a matter or on how a matter turns out, and we receive no share of any legal fee. That means nobody here has a financial reason to steer you.

What happens if nobody takes my case?

We tell you. We will also point you to other resources, including the Illinois State Bar Association's lawyer referral service and Illinois Legal Aid Online. We would rather give you a straight answer than leave you waiting for a call that is not coming.

I was arrested. What should I tell you?

Only the practical details — when your court date is, which county, whether charges are filed, whether anyone is representing you. Do not describe what happened. Information you send to this website is not protected by attorney-client privilege, and our criminal intake deliberately does not ask. Discuss the facts with a licensed attorney, not with us.

Can I upload medical records and photographs?

Yes, and it genuinely helps. Files are encrypted where they are stored, kept outside the public area of the server, and retrievable only through an authenticated route. Photographs are reprocessed to strip the location data phone cameras embed. But uploading something here does not make it privileged, so please only send what you are comfortable sending.

What if I started the form and had to stop?

You can ask the form to save your progress on your device, but it is switched off unless you turn it on — because an account of an accident sitting in a browser on a shared computer is a real privacy problem. If you did not save it, call us and we will take it over the telephone instead.

Is this website available in other languages?

Not yet. Several participating attorneys will list the languages they and their staff speak, and our intake staff can arrange interpretation for a call. Tell us what you need.

Information on this website is provided for general informational purposes only and is not individualised legal advice. Chicago Legal Connections is not a law firm and does not provide legal representation. Submitting an inquiry does not create an attorney-client relationship and does not guarantee that an attorney will accept your matter. Legal deadlines may apply to your situation, and this website does not calculate them. Consult a licensed attorney about your individual circumstances.

Something not answered here? Ask us, or call 1-847-803-6922. If your question is about your own legal situation rather than about this service, we will tell you plainly that it needs an attorney — because it does.
