Accessibility Statement

Last updated 2 October 2026

This is our current policy and it applies to your use of this website. We review these documents periodically and will update the date above when they change. If anything here is unclear, or you would like a copy, contact us.

People reach this website after an accident. Some of them are concussed, medicated, in pain, using one hand, or using a screen reader. Accessibility is not a compliance exercise here; it is the difference between being able to ask for help and not.

We are working toward Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. We are not claiming perfect conformance, because that claim is almost always untrue. Below is what we have done and what we know still needs work.

What we have done

  • Proper heading structure, landmarks and semantic HTML throughout, so a screen reader can navigate the page rather than read it as a wall.
  • Everything is operable by keyboard alone, including the intake form, the expandable questions and every dialogue.
  • A visible focus indicator on every interactive element, always. We have not removed it anywhere.
  • Measured colour contrast. No text on this site falls below a 4.5:1 ratio against its background, and interface boundaries meet 3:1.
  • Every form field has a visible label that stays visible. We never use a placeholder as a label, because it disappears the moment you start typing.
  • Errors are described in words, not by colour alone, are announced to assistive technology, are listed at the top of the step with a link to each field, and say how to fix the problem rather than only that it exists.
  • Tap targets are at least 48 by 48 pixels, with at least 24 pixels between them. The one exception is the small sound button on the home page video, which is 40 by 40 pixels so that it does not obscure the picture — still well above the 24 by 24 pixel minimum the guidelines set.
  • The site works at 200% text size and at 400% page zoom without horizontal scrolling.
  • Animation is subtle, is never required to read anything, and is switched off entirely if your device asks for reduced motion.
  • No action on this site requires dragging.
  • The two-factor authentication field accepts pasted codes, so you do not have to transcribe a number from another device.
  • Decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers; meaningful images have real descriptions.
  • Legal documents carry no scroll-triggered animation at all, so they cannot fail to appear.

How we test

Keyboard only. A screen reader on Windows and on iOS. 200% text zoom and 400% page zoom. A forced-colours mode. Plus automated checks on every build.

Automated testing alone is not enough, and we will not pretend it is — it catches perhaps a third of real problems and none of the ones about whether a page actually makes sense.

What we know is not right yet

[TO BE COMPLETED BEFORE LAUNCH. This section must list the real, known gaps found during testing. An accessibility statement with nothing in this section is not a statement, it is marketing. Leaving it empty would be worse than leaving it out.]
