Legal investigation support

Some matters turn on facts that have to be found and preserved before they stop existing. That work has a shelf life, and it is shorter than most people expect.

The problem with waiting

Evidence does not sit still waiting to be collected. A wet floor gets mopped and the sign goes back in the cupboard. A broken handrail gets fixed — which is sensible, and which also removes the proof it was broken. A witness who stopped to help moves apartment. A memory that was precise in week one becomes approximate by month three.

And surveillance video, the most useful evidence there is in a premises or vehicle matter, overwrites itself on a fixed cycle. Some systems hold thirty days. Plenty hold seven. Nobody at the property is going to preserve it unprompted, and once it is gone there is no version of events that brings it back.

What investigative support can contribute

  • Identifying and locating witnesses, and interviewing them while recollection is fresh
  • Documenting a scene properly — measured, photographed, and dated, in the condition it was actually in
  • Identifying which cameras may have covered an incident, and who controls the footage
  • Supporting the preservation of evidence before it is lost or altered
  • Public-record and background research
  • Accident-scene and liability investigation
  • Litigation support and trial-preparation assistance
  • Process-service coordination
  • Asset research, where legally permitted

Where the line is

Investigators develop and document facts and gather evidence. They assist attorneys and their clients. They do not replace an attorney, do not provide legal advice, do not express legal opinions, and do not tell you what a claim is worth. Investigative work is undertaken only when properly engaged for a specific matter.

Where this service identifies that evidence may be at risk, we document the issue and prepare the factual groundwork for an attorney to act on. We do not send legal demands on anyone's behalf. That is an attorney's decision and an attorney's signature.

For attorneys

Investigative support is available to attorneys on matters that did not come through this service at all. If you have a case that needs a scene documented, a witness found, or footage identified before it cycles, the investigative capability is the same one this intake process was designed around.

If you think video exists, time matters more than anything else on this page

If an incident happened at a business, a parking structure, an apartment building or on a public street, assume footage exists and assume it is on a timer. The sooner anyone knows where the cameras are and who controls them, the better the chance of it still being there.

Tell us in your intake that you believe cameras covered the area. It is one of the first things we look at.

Start by telling us what happened.

It takes a few minutes. You can stop at any point, and nothing is submitted until you choose to submit it.

Submitting an inquiry does not create an attorney-client relationship and does not guarantee attorney representation.
